2 oz light rum (Cruzan)
1 oz fresh lime juice
0.5 oz simple syrup
Shaken over ice and strained into cocktail glass.
*I added a maraschino cherry for good measure.
Tonight I decided to change up from my usual gin or vodka drink and try one with rum. After digging through my bar book I came across the daiquiri. Of all the drinks I haven't tried yet, the classic daiquiri? I was ashamed and read up quickly. I was use to the idea of a blended strawberry daiquiri, bit it seems the original recipe in my book was simply a cocktail. Excellent. I didn't feel like getting the blender out anyways. Most of the other daiquiri recipes were blended, but I'll wait til a laiter night. After assembling my drink I tried it, and to my surprise it was similar to a favorite of mine, the Kamikaze, but slightly smoother and less complex of a flavor.
This is the first post of many on my fresh adventure into mixed drinks, and I will have many more experiences to share. Some may be bad, but I think of all of them as an experience not had if I don't at least try them once. More often than not I have a new favorite, and curiosity always gets the better of me.
Cheers and goodnight!
